Story
The last day of the gala had arrived. The final discipline and another chance for the stallion to show the world what he would do. Hell knew he was not bred from the finest bloodlines in excistence, but he was a champion in his own right. The last two days, he had already proven to his owner that it had not been pure luck he did so wel last year and he planned on doing that again today. The course would be heavy after the rain from yesterday, but Kahijo was in top condition and he was ready to run.
Seth would have prefered a day like yesterday to go crossing. Rain or mud didn't bother either of them. And they liked it better with less sunshine then today. Heat and sun were no friends of the stallion, but they had to do it with what they got.
While preparing Kahijo, Seth realized this was actually their first cross together. Well, as far as competitions went. Sure, they had taken more then a few jumps on outdoors rides and even did a couple of trainings in it, but  never really competed. He looked up to the stallion, while he was putting on the boots. "You ready for this?" Kahijo snorted, clearly haing more attention for his oats then for his human. "Guess that's a yes." Mumbling, Seth continued, making sure everything was in order. they could jump together like no other pair, but in jumping, when you touched a bar, it fell. Cross was an altoghter different story. If you touched, you could very well fall and break your neck.
Outside, Seth made sure the stallion was warmed up properly, before going to the start. "Guess we'll both need a shower when we're done." The course was indeed muddy and it would be no better at the jumps itself, were the grass would be gone. "Let's go boy." He pressed his heels in the horse's sides and send him of. It may very well be the third day, but as they went, Seth could hardly feel that Kahijo had already worked hard the last two days. It was like the stallion had an energy-reserve on wich he could go on forever. Despite of that, he would give the horse some rest once this was over.
As they raced along the course, Seth counted the jumps, ticking each of them of mentally. He knew that every one of them brought him closer to the finish and closer to going home. He wanted to see his family again. Hold Selena in his arms and just be happy with what he had. His wife, his daughter and the life of a rider.
